The launches Raira and Rehutai are back on their moorings behind the Iris at Devonport. Ilex was placed in the water last week and is moored in the shelter of Judges Bay.

An old-timers’ competition for genuine old hands in the Z class is billed as a challenge between Takapuna and Manukau Yacht Clubs.

A generous donor, Mr. D. Latimer, of Onehunga, has provided a massive silver cup surmounted with a model of a launch as a prize for a projected 28knot reliability trial for launches. The suggested course is down the main channel to Huia and back via the South Channel on the Manukau.

Some fine racing with 12ft. 6in. class boats was witnessed on the Manukau during the week-end when heats were sailed for supremacy. The crews Messrs. Grant and McKenzie and Baker and Hosking. The former pair won, but several times the opposition headed them. The club will send a crew to Lyttelton for the Cornwell Cup.

Point Chevalier Club’s race during the week-end brought it good competition. Mistral was in good trim and annexed the first honours in the Hallyburton Johnstone Cup. The club is to put on a 14ft. event in the early New Year so that the Upper Harbour course will have a real try-out.

As a means of raising funds for the Z class representatives to go to Lyttelton, the Manukau Y"acht Club is asking for nominations for a “single hand” race in Z boats, the entrants to be adLilts; and the ide'a has caught on immensely. It is expected that a keen competition will eventuate from the way in which some of the crack boat handlers have entered.

The owners of Nyria, Messrs. Hanson, now have the boat in the Manukau and have registered with the Manukau Yacht Club.

Messrs. Hoverd have transferred the Manurere from the Vies to the Point Chevalier Club.

Norma and Anahere and the launch Karma have been placed in the tide on the Western Harbour.

At Milford Mr. Stead has sold his launch Lady Clare, and the boat is to leave the Wairau. Mr. Graham has purchased a launch, which remains in the estuary. The Lady Margaret is minus the Stearns engine, a new type Universal having been substituted.

At the Devonport Yacht Club’s grounds a working bee has been busy completing a sea wall which will permit of enlarging the pavilion by the building of a wide glassed-in balcony. Dinghy accommodation will be provided underneath the balcony.
