PROBATION FLOUTED
GAOL FOR YOUNG MAN FOUND IN TRAM SHED John Unsworth Whewell, who was placed on probation on January 20, has not reported to the Probation Officer since May 26. TVJHEWELL pleaded guilty at the ’’ Police Court this morning to breaking the terms of his probation order. Complaining that Whewell had made no attempt to comply with the terms of his order, the Probation Officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, asked that he be dealt with on the original charge of theft. He had made no attempt to find work, had neglected to pay' 'any of the restitution ordered and was found sleeping in a tramway waiting-shed. Whewell: I have been working at Arapuni. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: You have not reported or made any restitution. Probation was given you to save you from gaol and you have not respected it. Whewell was sentenced to three months’ Imprisonment.
