NEW MAIN HIGHWAY
OPOTIKI TO GISBORNE TWO MOTOR-CARS MAKE TRIP {From Our Gun Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Sunday. 1 Considerable importance is attached to the fact that two-motor cars made the trip from Matawai to Opotiki to- _> day over the new Waioeka Road, 1 which, it is considered, will he the s main highway iu the near future, be- i tween Gisborne and Opotiki. The new route traverses easy grades | and also shortens the distance between K the two centres. In a few days members of the Main gj Highways Board will make the trip |i over the ngw road and it is hoped that 5 as the result of the inspection the board will take over the whole cost | of maintenance of the road, which at present is an impossible burden on only a few settlers.
