That Dacre Touch

More “Life” & Brighter Cricket at Devonport When Life Dacro touches a ball witTi the bat it usually moves, and there was general regret on the Short' when ho failed to strike form in the Senior eleven. After joining the Worshipful Company of Spectacle-makers. Life was presented with the freedom of the Senior B wicket and enjoyed it very much on Saturday. The tussle in that grade between the Shore A and Short **Colts" is always keen and close, and Saturday was no exception. The * A*’ team had set the •’Colts" 181 to get to win. and when cheers announced that Life had bolted again there was a genera) drift of bored spectators from a scratchy senior game to the adjoining wicket. The ’ Colts” had lost 3 for *-• and then 4 for 21 when Dacre stepped into the breach to stop that sort of rot. The first ball was ’•flicked" over the road to leg arid the second crashed to the stonewall. The fireworks lasted about half an hour with a dazzling assortment of sixers and fours, while a no ball which shattered his sticks lent an added thrill. Life bagged 77 with the aid of six each of sixers and fours. One record sixer was a most extraordinary shot, when the smiter cut a fast rising ball clean over point’s head to the bank—a perfectly timed wrist shot made with no apparent effort. Life’s reappearance in the seniors would be hailed with joy by the jaded onlookers.
