HAMILTON NEWS A social was held in the Claudelands church hall on Saturday evening, when a large number of Church of England people met to bid farewell to Rev. J. Rich, who leaves this week for Christchurch, and to Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Matthews, who are removing to Auckland. Mr. Rich came to Claudelands from WTiangarei, and has done much useful work as curate. He organised the boy scouts, and placed them on a sound footing. , . „ Mr. Matthews has been secretary of the Claudelands Church Committee for some years, and he and Mrs. Matthews took a prominent part in promoting the work of the church in the district. Dean G. R. Barnett addressed the guests on behalf of the company, thanking them for their services. Mr. Rich was handed a cheque, and Mr. and Mrs. Matthews were presented with a silver teapot and water jug and a silver pencil. It has been decided that the children to benefit under the Waikato Children’s Camp League’s scheme shall go under canvas this summer on an excellent site provided by a resident of Port Waikato. Mr. C. Roose has offered to transport the children from Hamilton to Port Waikato and back again free of charge. The children will leave for the camp on December 26. * * * A leather suitcase was presented to Mr. H. W. S. Davies, telegraph superviser at Hamilton, by members of the Hamilton Post Office staff, prior to Mr. Davies’ departure on promotion as telegraph supervisor at Wellington. The chief postmaster, Mr. C. A. Mathleson. made the presentation, and described Mr. Davies as a courteous, popular, and highly efficient officer, who would be much missed in Hamilton. Other speakers referred to Mr. Davies in a i similar strain, and congratulated him on his promotion.
