ASSAULT IN TRAM
LABOURER’S FIT OF TEMPER CONDUCTOR HIT ON JAW As a result of Peter McClaren’s fit of bad temper, Albert Henry Dedman has been eight days off work. McClaren, a labourer, aged 49, was charged at th.e Court this morning with, assaulting Albert Henry Dedman, Mr. J. J. Sullivan entering a plea of guilty on his behalf. According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, McClaren had become quarrelsome while travelling on a tramcar and had struck the conductor on the jaw. The assaulted man had been off work for eight days, and it had been necessary for the doctors to make two X-ray examinations to discover the extent of his injuries. Dedman complained that he had been unable to eat anything for six days. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: That would be cheap living for you. Mr. Sullivan asked for leniency, urging that McClaren had just finished a hard day’s work and was under the influence of liquor. He was a married man and a good fellow ordinarily. Dedman saying that he would rather take half the fine than sue for damages, McClaren was fined £ 5 with costs £2 10s.
