“DETECTIVES” The latest, and what is said by many to be the best comedy ever made by Karl Dane and George K. Arthur, “Detectives,” will be shown again this evening at the Tudor Cinema, Remuera. The two heroes are working in an hotel, both rivals for the hand of the pretty house stenographer, played by Marceline Day, when the mysterious Orloff, master crook, starts his depredations. They start in chase—a race with the girl as a prize and stolen jewels as the object, and from then on their hilarious adventures and comical mishaps keep the fun going. “Beware of Married Men” will also be shown. This is an hilarious story of the trials and troubles of two sisters, starring Irene Rich. “BRASS KNUCKLES” AT EMPIRE “Brass Knuckles,” starring Monte Blue and Betty Bronson, will be shown at. the Empire Theatre this evening. Scenes in prison, in the tenements, the courts, and the homes of the poor of a great city, provide the locale for "Brass Knuckles.” The story is of a tenement lad, who is wrongfully imprisoned, and while in gaol incurs the hatred of a fellow-inmate, who hounds his after-life, trying to separate him from the motherless waif for whom he is caring. Hard-fisted, tender. humorous, pathetic, running the whole gamut of human passions, “Brass Knuckles’’ is a story hard to forget. A stirring Tom Mix picture, “Horseman of the Plains,” is the second feature DIXIELAND CABARET With new decorations and lighting effects, and situated in a cool position overlooking the harbour, the Dixieland Cabaret is an ideal dancing place. The cabaret will be open this evening, with dancing from 8.30 p.m. to midnight.
