A SUSTAINED, healthy demand for all the better-class securities was registered on ’Change this morning.

Banks remain in good tone, Commercials of Australia firming to see business outside the call room this morning at 30s sd. Holders ask 62s 6d for New Zealands. In the insurance group South British were active this morning at 645, several sales taking place at that figure, with more wanted. Sellers of A.P.A.’s have withdrawn, leaving buyers in at ss. * * * Coals are quiet, but there is a steady demand for most of the more popular shares in the group. Pukemiros are slightly easier with sellers quoting 68s and buyers in at 65s at mid-day. Renowns have steady buyers at 15s. Sellers of Westports, ex div., are unsupported. * * * A feature of the breweries group is the decline of New Zealands, the market weakening after last week’s revival to eee mid-day sellers at 57s unsupported. Buyers offered 54s at

the early call. Staples were unsupported with sellers at 425. * * * The miscellaneous group is quiet. Colonial Sugars are slightly easier compared with last week’s opening rates, sellers at £59 10s finding support at £1 below that figure. Electrolytic Zincs are very firm, the ordinaries seeing business at 35s 3d, compared with 32s 6d five weeks’ ago. Taranaki Oils are depressed, buyers offers falling to 4s 6d. * * * Business at this morning’s early call. —On 'Change: South British Insurance, 64s (two parcels).
