HUTT PARK TROTS

Successful Fixture

JOLLY CHIMES WINS NOVEMBER (Special to THE SUN J WELLINGTON, Saturday. FE Wellington Trotting Club s one-day November fixture was held at Hutt Park to-day in beautiful weather and before a large attendance. The course was in good order.

The racing was highly interesting, and the public found difficulty in solving the various problems set by handicapper George Paul, only three favourite selections returning a first dividend. Specuation was keen, the sum of £28,566 passing through the machine, compared with £27,479 for the corresponding fixture last year. J. Bryce, junr., driver of Wainoni, who finished second in the Railway Handicap, was fined £1 for continually looking round. Easy For Hinkler Though a field of 21 more or less green pacers faced the starter for the Hutt Park Trial Handicap, only five took a serious part in the contest, the others either breaking up at the start or being stopped by bad-man nerd horses. The three-year-old halfbrother to Rose Marie, Hinkler, was first out and first home, giving his pilot, W. J. Tomkinson, a comfortable ride all tho way. When Baron Bingen joined him two furlongs from home the brother to Great Bingen promised to beat Hinkler, but when they straightened for the box, Hinkler just played with Barcm Bingen, and won by as much as liis driver was wanting him to. Rafa began smartly and was with Hinkler to the mile in 2.27. He dropped back a bit rounding the far bend, but came again in tho straight to contest second money with Baron Bingen, and over the last 20 yards Rafa threatend to deprive Baron Bingen of second money, but hard driven to tho judge the latter managed to beat Rafa by a neck. Harold Bee and Lightfoot went pleasing races, but were not equal to the occasion. The much-fancied Chrystal failed to leave tho mark properly, as did Olatrice and several others. Security showed plenty of speed in the early stages, but failed to stay on. Hinkler came home his last half-mile in 1.8 1-5. He is a well-built youngster and acts as if he eventually will reach top-hole company. Solidity Rewarded Because she went steadily Kitty Patch won the Nai Nai Handicap. Several of her opponents would have beaten

her had they stuck to the trot. The favourite, Nancy Bingen, was very unlucky. She began well, but Great Way and Victor Bingen hit the air and got in front of Nancy Bingen, eventually causing her to leave her feet. The error cost her numerous lengths, and then she finished third. Lonesome went well for a mile, where she was in second place, but in her efforts to overhaul Kitty Patch she broke three times, but did not lose much ground, and was only a length behind Kitty Patch at the end. Great Way has speed and will make good In time. Kyra, Hardy Grattan, Cairnvale and Miss Loda gave bad exhibitions. Kitty Patch is an aged mare by Bor. Patch, and she was driven by her owner, W. Taylor. Great Logan Impresses G. Lenon's gelding, Great Logan, registered an impressive performance when he won the Railway Handicap. O. E. Hooper kept him in behind tho loader, Wainoni, till within a hundred yards of home, where ho gave him his head and in a few strides ho silenced Wainoni and went on to win as he liked. With the mile covered in 2.21 2-5, Wainoni and Great J..ogan were being closely followed by Exclusive, Nan Brent. Zella and Athalone. Exclusive, Zellu and Athalone were forced to cover a lot of ground, which jeopardised their chance, but it is doubtful if they could have beaten Great Logan had they enjoyed tho best of passages. Wainoni was the surprise packet and went his best race. He has not sported silk for some time. Nan Brent. Zclla, Exclusive and Athalone should all win money in tho near future. Free Advice’s Great Effort When Marshal Neil cleared out from the field in the November Handicap, "With Jolly Chimes, Wharepiana, and Golden Bubbles racing in single file at intervals of about two lengths, it looked as if nothing else had any chance of overhauling the leader, and he got to tho first quarter pole in 36 4-5, the half mile in 1.9 2-5, the mile in 2.17 4-5, and the mile and a-half in 3.26 1-5, at which stage no alteration in the running had taken place. Here Free Advice, who was about a hundred yards behind the leader, left the rear division, and proceeded to overhaul the leaders. Three furlongs from home Golden Bubbles, Jolly Chimes, Wharepiana, and Free Advice were aJI trying to overhaul Marshal Neil, who led into the straight. A furlong from home he began to tire, and there Jolly Chimes and Wharepiana collared him. Then along came Free Advice, a fine finish ending in Jolly Chimes securing the honours by a length, with Wharepiana in the minor place. Avenger, Mate o’

M ine, Pageant, The Abbey. Billy Sea, «*nd Talent never looked like adding interest to the contest, all being in trouble a long way from home. MaxeSin began fast, but broke before going 20 yards, and tho pacers had him up in tho air for the next three furlongs. Jolly Chimes is owned by Messrs. Fraser and McLeod, of Southland, and

is trained at New Brighton by J. N. Clarke, who drove him. Nancy Bingen Makes Amends Nancy Bingen had too much speed at the finish of the Wilford Handicap for Victor Bingen, who does not appreciate a two-mile journey. Nancy Bingen made one bad break, but was close to the leaders, Victor Bingen and Kyra, with a round to go. Three furlongs from home Kyra broke, and caused S. J. Smith to ease Nancy Bingen, but once the straight was reached

Nancy soon accounted for Victor Bingen. Once again Great Way and Lonesome failed to go solidly. Real Light’s Success While Real Light was responsible for a high-class performance in winning the Middle Class Handicap, the three-year-old filly Oil worth, deserves a ot of credit, for it was she that made the pace for a mile and seven furlongs, and demanded that Real Light live up to his lofty reputation to beat her. The unlucky horse of the race was Atlialone, who suffered erious interference at the end of six furlongs, and lost several lengths. Even after his bad luck he finished gamely in third place. Zella is a much improved mare, that will win races at the Christmas fixtures. Real Light is a member of C. S. Donald’s stable. The first mile was compassed in 2.23. mile and a-half in 3.32 3-5, and the full journey in 4.36 4-5. Marshal Neil at Last Marshal Neil never allowed the Sharpe Handicap to get into the doubtful column. He hopped out of the barrier, and, stepping his first four furloiigs in 1.6, he had his opponents gasping. On he came, and at the top of the lane Emms gave him a kick, and homo he came, four lengths in front of Bing Boy, who after a desperato tussle with Granite City and High Jinks managed to gain second honours. Acre was at sea on the track, and The Abbey failed to get away quickly, being hopelessly placed when the field had gone a furlong. Logan Park’s Great Dash After losing 100 yards at the start, Logan Park registered a sensational performance in getting to within a head of the winner, in the Electric Handicap, who after trailing Black Admiral into the straight, drew out, and after a snappy finish with Logan Park, won by a narrow margin.
