Auckland Grammar School Admirable Publication Attractively prepared, and filled with contributions of a remarkably high standard, tho Auckland Girls’ Grammar School Magazine for November, 1928, comes as a pleasant surprise even to those who perused and enjoyed previous issues of this admirable publication. Th© production is certainly a credit to the school, to its editors, and to th© young writers and artists whos© work lies between the tasteful grey covers. It is obvious at once that unlimited time and patience hfcs been expended on its preparation, but th© authors may be sure that their work has been well worth while. Ovirr 100 pages ar© devoted to school records and topics of all kinds. In fact th© volume is of so comprehensive a nature that its value as a chronicle of school events during th© past year is much beyond the usual standard set by such magazines. There is a full, illustrated record of special happenings outside the class room and playing fields, followed by excellent form notes, profusely illustrated. Records, of school games, interesting articles and a representative collection of verse fill the remaining pages. The illustrations are effective and tho majority ar© both novel and attractively finished. This applies particularly to the drawings in th© form notes and th© decorative heading designs. Much of th© vers© is topical, but there are a number of thoughtful and exceedingly promising contributions. The humorous verso has been handled with admirable restraint and has not been allowed to predominate to the detriment of dignity. The essays and articles ar© interesting and cover a surprisingly wide field. There are also a number of full and half-page photographs, each of which adds materially to the value of the magazine as a school record.
