MAORI DROWNED
MENTAL HOSPITAL PATIENT FATALITY AT HELENSVILLE (Special to THE SUN) HELENSVILLE, To-day. The Maori who jumped into the Kaipara River yesterday and was drowned has been identified as Waha Wai Pangarei, who wandered away from the Avondale Mental Hospital on Monday. The body was recovered late yesterday afternoon. Pangarei was sitting on the wharf and when approached by Constable W. E. Hunt he jumped into the river and started to swim to the other side. Constable Hunt followed the Maori in a boat, but the man sank out of sight before he was overtaken. An inquest will bo held.
