MR. OSBORNE ON LABOUR “If Labour is beaten at the polls it means that the people have been beaten.” declared Mr. A. G. Osborne. Labour candidate for Waitemata. at a rally in the Marine Parade. Devonport, last evening. Mrs. Bosworth. who also spoke, dealt with the planks of the Labour platform of interest to women, pensions. housing and- war. Relating hei experiences as a social worker in Auckland, she said that any practical Christian working for the uplift of humanity must vote Labour. Mr. Osborne insisted that the fight in Waitemata was between Labour and Reform. He countered charges of disloyalty by giving the Labour men’s war records. Mr. Harris’s charge of a hidden policy and his avoiding of the challenge to either substantiate or withdraw his assertion was criticised. The Government, if it returned, would inevitably try to force down wages, he said, and further exempf the rich classes from taxation. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried.
