TROTTING

(»y -ABAYDOB.") form weighed for otahuhu SOUTHERNERS SHOULD BE PROMINENT Speed and yet more speed was the motto at Addington during the trotting carnival last week, and quite a number of performers acted accordingly, with the result that times were improved and records, both races and standard ‘cracked without regard to consequences. O. Hooper has worked a bis: improvement in Fairlight and he is racing solidly now. Last week at Addington he ran two genuine races, securing second mone.v on each occasion. He will be, brought to Epsom this week and it will be hard luck if he cannot secure better than a second berth at the fixture. He is O.K. in saddle or harness, and after his speed records last week will be popular with the public. Jackie is a Real Jackie Jackie Audubon will need no letter of introduction to the Auckland public, as they have seen him in action quite recently. But his sole effort at Addington last week was one that stamped him with the hall-mark and entitles the son of Great Audubon to rank with the best in the land. He is now under J. Shaw’s care and syrives to-morrow with the other jpcmbers of the stable. Now Racing Solid .Mate o’ Mine is developing into a solid pacer and Edwards’s liorse put up two attractive performances, registering smart time on each occasion, tie will be in rare nick for Otahuhu and looks a likely sort to get some money. In his Addington essays he stayed on well and fought the opposisiyji gamely at the end. Classy Marc $c Golden Bubbles is a classy mare and now racing in solid fashion. When she won last week the mare was fully tested and proved that she is not devoid of gameness. The Canterbury paoer will have a lot of friends when she steps out at the Otahuhu fixture, and if the bubble bursts there will be lamentations in some quarters. Speedy, but “Iffy" Lady Matchlight is a speedy mare that is always likely to upset the best calculations in a race, allowing, of course, for the proviso “if” she goes away. She went one stinging race at Addington last week into second place and may go one better at Alexandra Park, although when expected the second time up at Addington she failed to go right. The Abbey is the Goods If ther.e are any doubters regarding the racing ability of The Abbey it is a pity they did not have the chance of seeing the mystery horse at Addington. proved not only that he possesses speed but is a genuine stayer. He was unlucky the last day at Addington, and so were his few admirers, as the Gold Bell gelding was paying over a score. Form Not True Laplander’s form the lirat day at Addington was not correct. as he showed when stepped out on the final day, and although beaten into tnird place it was an improved performance. And he will further improve at Auckland. where he appears to be partial to the “opposite pathway.” He is finishing his races like a proved stayer, j Not in His Best Form 'Native Prince did not fulfil expectations on the Southern trip and he was costly to his supporters both at home and abroad. On the opening day he failed to get going correctly and then had a rocky passage, which made his chance hopeless. In his next outing the, J’rince was nicely placed for more than half the journey, when he broke and nearly came down. He appeared to. be sore, and was not produced on tho final clay. Benefit From Racing Wharepiana did not catch the judge's eye last week, but she was unlucky in the running on the final day, wtj.eh she showed a good turn of speed. M. B. Edwards has the mare in nice shape, and the racing at Christchurch should benefit her for Otahuhu engagements.

Defeated but Not Disgraced Little Jewel Pointer put up two good fights at Addington but while he wus> beaten at the finish he died gamely. The Aucklander did his work in his usual fashion except for one Important thing—his finishnig brilliance. Ju«t what would have happened if the collision with Great Bingen had been averted in the Free for All is problematical. but J. Shaw had him going nicely at the time. He may or may not have won, but the judge would hg,ve experienced some difficulty in making the selection. Speed to Burn That Western King’s speed ability is »ot all froth and bubble was fully demonstrated on the concluding day at Addington, where the ex-Australian was clocked to go 2.7 4-5. This was after losing ground at the get-away, but it was hard luck after putting up such a fine exhibition, to secure only the small end of the purse. He lias changed hands, and is now, with Amaris, under the charge of M. B. Edwards. Derby Lynn for Auckland W. Hughes left Christchurch on Thursday with Padlock and on arrival Palmerston North will pick up Derby Lynn for Auckland. The Longburn trainer informed “Abaydos” at Addington that he did not know till he got home whether Loch Moigh would make tho trip. The gallant pacer was feeling the effects of his last Northern visit when Hughes left for Christchurch. Trainer Bullock Busy * J. Bullock crossed Cook Straits on Saturday night en route for Hawera, With Kohara and Sister Beatrice, there being no truth in the rumour that the latter was sold, although a Southern sportsman made overtures in that direction. The veteran trainer will leave almost immediately after his arrival in Taranaki for Auckland with Billon Huon and Mokanna, while .Jasper and Richore may also go North remain at Epsom for the Hamilton fixture. J

HIGH-CLASS ONE ’Travis axworthy did not . take part in the Addington Competitions but will in all probability be seen under silk at Alexandra Park next Saturday. The - American-bred stallion is a speedy Customer; in faet, Canterburyites » have a very high opinion of his capabilities.
