WRIGHT AGAIN CHAMPION AUCKLAND CLUB TITLE Though R. D. Wright was two down on Saturday morning to Dr. WAbbott and lost the first hole in the afternoon’s play, he made a splendid recovery to once again take the championship title of the Auckland Golf Club at Middlemore. The conditions were as bad as they could be. In the morning there was a high wind and the greens were dry and trickv, while in the afternoon there was a half gale, and almost continuous driving rain. Most of the difference in the morning was in the putting, though Wright was not playing his long game nearly as well as he did in the semi-final last Saturday. Abbot took 22 putts on the way out and Wright IS, and Wright was two up at the turn. Abbott then struck a patch of brilliant scoring, a three at the tenth, followed by a brilliant putt round a stymie at tlie eleventh where he again had a three wiped off the lead, and Abbott was one up after the next, the 15th, where a perfect spoon shot gave him a chance for another three, but Wright gave up the hole after playing five. The 12th, 13th and ' 14th were not played owing to temporary greens. Wright took three putts at the lbtn which was halved, and at the 17th, for the third time in the match, symied Abbott for his approach putt. Wright squared at the 18th where Abbott bunkered his Second, but Abbott won the first and second, and halved the third, thus completing the 18 holes, and going to lunch two up. WRIGHT FINISHES WELL In the afternoon Abbott started away by winning the first. This was tho third time in the match that he had taken the hole from Wright, but after that there was only one man in the picture. Each reached the second with two perfect shots, both being about 15ft away. Wright sunk his. Tho next was halved in fives, and Wright took tho next two with fours to square the match. Abbott put his second down the Tamaki bank at the 6th, and. then sunk a desperately long putt for a half, but Wright took the next three in par figures, and was three up at the turn. The short hole was halved in fours against the wind, and Abbott again sunk a long putt for a three at the 11th. Wright took two of the next three holes to lead 4 up and then be dormy. A half on the 18th ended the match 4 and 3 in Wright’s favour. Abbott had played well throughout the match, but Wright seemd to gain confidence after the long putt on the second in the afternoon, and was playing much his own game after that. He was out in one under scratch scoring. OTHER COMPETITIONS In the final of the Captain’s Trophy,

H. Plumley and L. B. Campbell could not decide the issue, the match being all square at the ISth, and requiring to be played again. In the semi-final of the junior championship B.
