OUTBOARDS TO RACE
CHALLENGE CONTEST ON WHAU RIVER Arrangements have been finalised for the outboard speed-boat challenge race for a stake of £SO deposited with THE SUN. The contestants are two well-knowg speed men, Messrs. L. Stericker and A. R. Townsend. Their boats are respectively the Hum Bug and the Miss Arawa. both powered with engines approximating 16 horse-power at 4.000 revolutions. It is estimated speeds between 35 and 40 miles an hour will be attained. A special committee has decided that the race is to take place on the Whau River next Saturday, November 17. The start is timed for 2.45 p.m. The contest will be regulated under rules of the Auckland Yacht and Alotor-Boat Association. The officials are as follow:—Starter, Air. E. L. Buchanan; judge, Air. G. P. Robertson; time-keepers, Messrs, C. R. Wilson, R. Mount and E. Maud:’ sailing committee, Alessrs. C. R. Wilson, R. Mouat, E. Alaud and E. L. Buchanan: pilot of racing course. Air. L. Palmer in Miss Akarana.
