EVIL OF PESSIMISM

HON. J. A. YOUNG’S REVIEW SCHOOL DENTAL CLINICS (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, To-day. Stating that, as a result of the pessimism expressed in certain quarters, a Scottish firm had withdrawn over £1,000,000 from New Zealand rural securities and was reinvesting it in Great Britain, the Hon. J. A. Young, Reform’s candidate for Hamilton, delivered an address before a big audience in the Frankton Town Hall last evening. Mr. A J. Denz presided, and, after an orderly meeting, a motion of thanks and confidence in Mr. Y'oung was declared carried. The speaker said that the adoption of the Labour Party’s policy of nationalisation of the medical services of the country would mean an enormous addition to the taxation burden of the people. The Labour Party seemed to promise much for nothing, but everything promised by that party would have t<Y be paid for by somebody. In answer to a question, Mr. Young said he would support a proposal to raise a loan of £2,200 for the purchase of a children’s playground for Frankton. The candidate also told a questioner that Mr. H. H. Sterling had received a retaining fee of £SO a year for special services rendered to the Railway Department after he had left that service. “There are now 10 dental officers and 84 dental nurses employed by the Health Department in connection with school dental clinics,” he said. “I will not be satisfied until the department has at least 300 nurses in the field.” It was the policy of the Government to carry on the service not only to the 200,000 children In the State primary schools, but to all other children irrespective of what school they might attend.
