Second Matches End

TO-MORROW’S A.C.A. CRICKET

Varsity’s Strong Position

The second matches of the season in 1 the Auckland Cricket Association’s j senior A grade competition will be ! brought to a close to-morrow, when, I conditions remaining normal, wins may be expected lor North Shore, Ponsonby, Y.M.C.A. and University. Still, none of these matches are “certainties,” and Ponsonby, especially, has the hardest part of it to do. The chief attraction w'ill be the match between last season’s champions, Eden and Ponsonby on number two wicket at Eden Park. Eden is all out for 197 in its first innings, and so far Ponsonby has replied with 20 for one. Should the weather hold, it is hoped in the Ponsonby camp that they will be able to raise the required runs for a lead on the first innings, although the batting of the Ponies is scarcely as solid as Eden’s. Chiefly as the result of the sensational bowling by Alan Player, North Shore is in a strong position in its match with United Suburbs at Devonport. The home side ran up 152 in its first innings, to which Suburbs replied with 103. Out at King’s College, Y.M.C.A. has gained a comfortable and unlooked for lead over Parnell on the first innings, and still has one wicket to fall, with E. H. Bowlcy being one of the not-out men. Last Saturday, Parnell scored 80, while the Young Men lost nine for 131. On number three wicket at Eden Park, Varsity is in a good position to claim a victory over Grafton. Chiefly on account of Dunning’s fine performance with the ball last Saturday, Grafton collapsed for 43. The students then went in, and had seven wickets down for 191 at stumps. Langridge will make bis reappearance in Auckland cricket in this match. TEAMS Third Grade Glebe.—McNlel, Brambley, Everson, Jones, A. Fisher, Moon, Reynolds, G.
