OLYMPIC GAMES WRANGLING

ARE these trips to the Olympic Games worth while? In view of the arguments which seem to follow the return of Olympic representatives, they don’t seem to he. Australia, for instance, is wrangling over the treatment, training and performances of its representatives. Outside these three points, there is little to argue over. When all the hubbub subsides there will be a sane realisation that New Zealand and Australia should expect valuable advice from members of the Olympic teams. But a fear has been expressed in New Zealand that the latest Olympic representatives will be like some of their predecessors—simply return and drop out of sport altogether. The public is emphatic that it is their duty to give the benefit of their experience abroad to sport in the Dominion before they retire. All sorts of petty questions have been asked the Australians who returned from the games. One section of the public has been up in arms because rumours of flirtations among the team members have got abroad! _ And so the arguments go on. They do little good. But head and shoulders above all the wrangling stands the sound opinion that a rowing eight would have served New Zealand better, with a definite chance of capturing the honours. Perhaps New Zealand rowers will be properly represented at the next Olympic Games in the United States.
