TRAINING CAMPS

MILITARY ARRANGEMENTS NORTHERN COMMAND FIXTURES The annual training camps for units throughout the Northern Command have been arranged, commencing on November 24 and being held almost continuously until May 4. Over 20 camps will be held at Ngaruawahia. Narrow Neck. Rotorua and Whangarei, including refresher courses for members of the permanent staff. Th© largest camp will be held at Narrock Neck from February 6 to 16, when the Ist Battalion Auckland Regiment, of about 1,000 strong, will undergo a course. NAVY TO PARTICIPATE This camp will also be the most interesting of the military year throughout the whole Dominion, as extensive manoeuvres are to be carried out at Orewa. The warships of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy will combine in these, as well as the northern depot. New Zealand Engineers, which will be in barracks at North Head at the same time. Details of the programme are as follow: —November 24 to December 1, 13th Battery, New Zealand Artillery (North Head); January 19 to 26. Northern Depot, New Zealand Army Service Corps (Ngaruawahia); February 2 to 9, Northern Depot, New Zealand Medical Corps (Ngaruawahia); February 6 to 16, Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment (Narrow Neck); February 6 to 16, Northern Depot, New Zealand Engineers (North Head); February 13 to 23, Ist Battalion North Auckland Regiment, and Ist Battalion, Hauraki Regiment (Ngaruawahia) ; February 20 to March 2, Ist Battalion, Waikato Regiment (Ngaruawahia) ; February 28 to March 7, 20th Pack Battery (Rotorua); March 7 to 14, 3rd Battery (Rotorua); March 14 to 21, 18th Battery (Rotorua); March 21 to 28. 21st Battey (Rotorua); April 3 to 10, Ist Battery (Rotorua); April 9 to 19, Auckland Mouned Rifles and Waikato Mounted Rifles (Ngaruawahia) : April 10 to 17. 2nd Battery (Rotorua); April 17 to 24. 4th Battery (Rotorua); April 24 to May 4, North Auckland Mounted Rifles (Whangarei). Members of .the Northern Depot, New Zealand Corps of Signallers, will spend the following dates at Narrow Neck: November 10 and 11. 17 and 18, 24 and 25: February 16 and 17, 23 and 24; March 2 and 3. and March 9 and 10. The “casual” camp, for members of the Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment, who cannot attend the regular course, will be held at Narrow Neck between April 3 and 13. Special refresher courses for the permanent staff will be held at Narrow Neck between November 30 and December 15, and at Waiwera between April 4 and 11. RIFLE MEETING SHOOT AT PENROSE The No. 1 regimental district rifle meeting will be held at the Penrose range on November 23 and 24. The machine-gun teams’ matches will be fired at the range on November 17. Entries have been delayed to a considerable extent by the military boxing championships last week, but good numbers are now coming forward. The time of closing of entries has been extended to November 19. The competition is open to Royal (NZ.) Naval recruits, territorials. senior cadets, returned soldiers, and rifle clubs. Cash prizes are offered to the winners of the various sections.
