BRIGHT CRICKET AT MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR SCHOOL

A very interesting match was played j between Eden Senior B team and Mount Albert Grammar School on Saturday afternoon. There were 12 j aside, but only 11 fielded. Fraser won the toss from __ F. j Poeppel, and School batted first. ! Throughout the afternoon the bowling and fielding of both sides were good, and runs were always difficult to get. Tho wicket rolled out well, and appears likely to be one of the very best in Auckland when not affected by rain. The outfield is fairly good, but slow because the grass was thick and rather long. This is the first season that Mount Albert Grammar School has had its own match ground. The school’s batsmen made a bad start against the bowling of S. Boardman (left-hand medium) and J- H. Holloway (righthand medium), the former bowling particularly well, making the ball turn back sharply. Four wickets were down for 11 and five for 21, Webb being the only one of the first six batsmen who seemed able to stay and score freely. Ho played a good forceful innings for 45, and was well supported by Burton (20), Caul try (17), Lane (13 not out), and Spence 11. The innings closed for a total of 121. Boardman obtained six wickets, J. G. Brown three, and Holloway and O. S. Hintz one each. G. D. Lawrie and E. G. Jeffries opened Eden’s innings, but at six the latter retired lbw. G. Langton, batting well, assisted Lawrie to take the total to 30 before being bowled by Vivian, (lie latter batsman meeting a similar fate nine runs later, after making 19 by good cricket. Hutter slipped and collided with the wicket before opening his account. With J. G. Brown and Poeppel together, runs came more quickly, the former being run out at 70 —5—19. Poeppel continued to bat very well, and to make some fine shots, particularly off-drives, and being unconquered for a good innings of 55 when the school total was passed, retired. Eden’s total was 125, which gave them a win by four runs after a most enjoyable and well-contested game. The school fielded well. Vivian, with five wickets, was the most successful bowler. Webb and Potter each secured two wickets.
