VISITORS AT THE COURTS Opening days are always social events, and Saturday’s sunshine brought flocks of visitors to the tennis courts. Remuera Club.—Tea was served in the clubhouse, where the tables were attractively arranged with purple cinerarias. Among those who were present were: Mrs. E. W. Griffiths. Mrs. E. Tonks, Mrs. L. Robson. Mrs. Colson, Mrs. E. Bartleet, Mrs. Tlodges, Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Gaudin, Mrs. Morton, Mrs. R. Griffiths, Mrs. Massey, Mrs. McCartney, Mrs. W. A. Horne, Mrs. Whitcomb, Miss R. Roberton, Miss L. Onehunga Club.—The pavilion was gaily decorated with flags lent by Mrs. X>. Cuthbert. After welcoming the guests and new members, Mrs. Malcolm Robb made a speech commenting upon the excellent work done on the courts during the winter months. Mrs. M. Robb played the first ball amid great applause, the courts then being open for play for the season. The afternoon tea committee and lady members had a busy time dispensing tea. The tables were artistically decorated by Miss G. Harrison in the club colours', and with the many evidences of excellent home cooking. Takapuna Club.—The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. N. Williamson, declared the courts open, and Mrs. Williamson presented the prizes. Among those present were: Mrs. Williamson, Mrs. ISf. Howe. Mrs. T. Mowbray, Mrs. L. Bayfield Club. —On Saturday there was an attendance of about 70. The recent renovation of the pavilion and the repairs to the courts lent added enjoyment to the afternoon’s play. Devonport Club. —Tennis frocks and vivacity were the attributes of Devonport girlhood on Saturday, three of the public tennis courts opening in lovely spring weather and each registering record attendances. An official party from the Devonport Borough Council, fresh from the ceremony of setting the Alison Clock a-ticking on the waterfront, looked in at the opening ceremony at two of the club’s grounds. At Devonport the Mayor Mr. E. Aldx*idge, had f£ few nice remarks to make, and handed out last season's trophies; when afternoon tea had been disposed of the befiagged courts were thronged. The ladies with the official party were the Mayoress (Mrs. E. Aldridge), Mrs. S. Lyon, Mrs. F. J. EUisdon and Mrs. T. \Valsh. Miss J. Aldridge, Miss Aldridge, and Miss Lorrie Walsh. Vauxhall Club. —At the Vauxliall Club’s courts. Narrow Neck, six chip courts were fully occupied during the afternoon. The Mayor, in handing over the prizes, remarked that he had never seen so many pretty girls and that if he were reincarnated he would be a tennis player and play a real good love game.
