“THE GIRL FRIEND”
PLANS NOW OPEN There was a large demand for seats this morning for the J. C. Williamson musical comedy season, which begins on Wednesday evening next at His Majesty’s Theatre, when will be presented for the first time the latest London musical comedy success, “The Girl Friend,” with the favourite London star, Annie Croft, in the leading role. Annie Croft came to Australia with a big London reputation, and her immediate success in Sydney and Melbourne fully justified all the glowing preliminary accounts of her charm and personality.
The company supporting includes Reginald Sharland and Leo Franklyn, both having English reputations. Other popular people in the cast are Gus Bluett, May Beatty, and her daughter
Bunny, Mary Rigby, James Hughes, Les Donaghey, Winnie Tate, and the fascinating.chorus and ballet of Australasian youth and beauty. The play is produced by Frederick Blasckman, who staged “The Student Prince.” There are a number of delightful songs, which have already become familiar by means of the player piano and phonograph, including “The Blue Room,” “I Travel the Road,” “I’m in Love,” “Early in the Morning,” “What’s the Use of Crying?” and “Mountain Greenery.” The and dressing are features of the production. “The Girl Friend” will be played for six nights, and one matinee, and will be followed by a naval musical comedy, “Hit the Deck.” The box plans are at Lewis Eady’s Ltd.
