Y.W.C.A. MOTHERS’ CLUB ARRANGES CONCERT AT COSTLEY HOME
Under the auspices of the Mothers’ Club of the Y.W.C.A., Auckland, a very successful concert was given' at the Costley Home, Epsom, on Saturday evening. That this kind of entertainment is much appreciated by the inmates can be gathered from the fact that every performer had to answer with an encore. The president, Mrs. Hankins, stated that the programme was arranged by the mothers whose birthdays occurred in October. The proceedings opened with a pianoforte solo by Miss May Judd. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Bethune, Walker and Messrs. Judd and Harrison. Mr. Harrison also contributed instrumental items. Mr. G. Hill gave a flute solo and Mr. McLeod accompanied Master Angus with the bagpipes when he danced the Sailors’ Hornpipe. Dances were contributed by the Misses Jensen (2) and Master Baker, recitations by Miss V. Hynes and Master Hankins, and wand drill by four girls, Misses Hill (2), Hynes and Ryan. Another item which caused much amusement was given by the Te Papapa Pirates. At the close of the evening the birthday mothers were presented to the audience and the entertainment was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
