OPENING OF TENNIS COURT (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Saturday. Mrs. Robertshaw, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs. T. A. Burtenshaw, in Hamilton for some weeks, has to Hamilton. Mrs. Dudley Jolly, of Wharepuhanga, is the guest of Mrs. F. Jolly, Frankton Hill. * * * Mrs. A. H. Tompkins and Miss Gladys Tompkins sailed yesterday for a holiday in Australia. * * * Mrs. R. H. Boyd left Hamilton last night for Wellington, where she will live in future. • * * Mrs. Magnus Johnson has returned to Hamilton from Napier. * * * Mrs. E. B. Heywood and Miss Helen Heywood left yesterday by the Maheno for Sydney. * * * Mrs. Clarke Johnson and Miss Q. Johnson, of Wellington, are at present in Hamilton. Mrs. T. S. Mrs. A. W. Ward gave a very pleasant party on Thursday afternoon at her home in Claudelands. The guest of honour was Mrs. R. B. Boyd, who left last evening for Wellington. Competitions, tea and chat passed the time very brightly, Mrs. McCutcheon being the winner of the competition. Mrs. Ward was wearing a becoming frock of cyclamen figured georgette. Mrs. Boyd was in a chic suit of scarlet and beige crepe de chine. Miss Erma Ward, who assisted her mother to entertain her guests, was r fn a pretty resida green panne velvet/ The ladies present were:—Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Owen Monckton, Mrs. J. F. Strang, Mrs. E. H. E Page, and Mrs J. D. Smith. • . * * BRIDGE PARTIES Mrs. S. Jenkinson gave a bright party for some of her bridge playing friends at her home in Grey Street on Tuesday afternoon. Progressive bridge was played, the successful players being Mrs. E. Reeves and Mrs. A. James. Those present were:—Mrs. A. Churton (Waihi), Mrs. E. Reeves. Mrs. J. Rawlinson, Mrs. J. O’Grady, Mrs. A. James, Mrs. L. Pemberton, Mrs. F. Pinfold, Mrs. F. Beehan, Mrs. C. Stevenson, Mrs. Willoughby, Mrs. Oswald Smith. * * * On Wednesday evening Mrs. H. S. Hawkins entertained some friends at very pleasant bridge in her home, “Glencoe.” She received her guests in a becoming black georgette gown. Her daughter, Miss I. Hawkins, was in a pretty ciel blue charmeuse frock. The ladies present were Mrs. E. J. Mears, Mrs. A. W. Ward, Mrs. A. English. Miss E. Necker, Miss K. Cowie .and Miss M. Chadwick. Mrs. Mears and Miss Cowie were successful in getting the prizes. * * * On Thursday evening Miss Irene Hawkins invited some of her young friends to Glencoe for a very happy Bridge party. She was wearing a frock of delphinium blue satin beaute. The prizes were won by Miss Miriam Magill and Miss Cecille Chitty. The girls present were: Miss Erena Ward, Miss Ngaire Jackson, Miss Frances Peacocke. Miss Helen Gaze. Miss Betty Manning, Miss Miriam Magill, Miss Cecille Chitty. • * * TENNIS CLUBS OPEN The Hamilton Tennis Club had a perfect afternoon for its opening on Saturday, and in consequence there was a very large muster of players and their friends. Mr. A. McCracken, president of the Hamilton courts, in his opening speech welcomed all those present. He made special mention of the new clubs that had taken some of the Hamilton courts —St. George’s, Ellis and Burnand's and the Dairy Company, who were having their opening in unison with Hamilton. He expressed great pleasure in having two ex-New Zealand champions present, Dr. Lawrensen and Mr. A. Sims; also the North Island lady champion, Mrs. Waters, formerly of Te Aroha and now of Hamilton.

Mrs. McCracken, helped by Miss G. Eggleston and Miss E. Newell, provided a most hospitable and much appreciated tea for all present. Later an exhibition doubles match between Laurensen (Matamata) and Thompson (Putaruru), v. Messrs. A. Sims and McCracken, resulted in a win for the former by 6—2. Among the many ladies present were: Mesdames A. McCracken, A. S. Sims, A. W. Sims, Laurenson (Matamata), D. McCaw, Blakeway, T. Atkins, Walders, Seal, Fabling, L. Day, Farquhar, Collier, O.
