CHEAP WATCH PIONEER
TRAGEDY RECALLED At the age of 69, Mr. Robert Hawley Ingersoll, who amassed a large fortune out of the cheap watch which bears his name, has died at Denver. He was originally a manufacturer of rubber stamps, but his ambition always was to produce a “dollar watch,” and in this he succeeded, the business growing beyond all expectations. In December, 1926, Mr. Ingersoll’s wife, from whom he had been estranged for some time, was found shot dead in her flat at Park Avenue, New York. In another room was Mr. Wallace Probasco, the wealthy son-in-law of the late Mr. R. Ingersoll. the wellknown agnostic. He was suffering from shot founds in the chest and right arm. Mrs. Ingersoll had a revolved in her hand. She had left a note: “'Tis all a mistake.” Mr. Probasco stated that Mrs. Ingersoll shot him and then killed nerself.
