A Firm Market
Keen Demand for Coals

BUSINESS opened for the week on ’Change this morning with a very firm tone in the market for all the better class of securities. Little activity was registered, however.
The banking: section is quiet, but quotations are listed for a wide range of shares in the group with prices very firm. Insurances occupy the same position, although sellers are very hard to locate. Coals continue to attract considerable attention. Hikurangi prefs. are particularly firm, with sellers at 11s 3d, backed up by buyers at 11s. Buyers of Renowns improved at mid-day to 16s 3d, to find sellers asking 16s 9d. Buyets of Watpas remain in at 12s 3d.
The woollen group is particularly firm, with every tendency upward. Sellers are hard to locate. Mosgiela continue to attract buyers at £7 ss, without drawing sellers into the market. Both issues of Wellingtons are also in steady demand. Business at this morning’s early call: —On ’Change: British Tobacco, 445. Business at mid-day:—On ’Change: Wilsons Cement, 40s; Ohinemuri Mining, 7s 3d. Reported: Wilsons Cement 40s.
