In the Market Place

LEMONS DULL OF SALE APPLES AND PEARS IN DEMAND Lemons were dull of sale in the City Markets to-day. Apples and pears are meeting with a keener demand. Granny Smith, Delicious and Sturmers are the better-priced apple lines. ORANGES are selling well. Island repacks and picked sizes bringing high prices. Prices have risen for hothouse tomatoes. There is a good inquiry for Cook Island tomatoes. Banana repacks are bringing high prices. Gooseberries and strawberries have now appeared. They are meeting with a good inquiry. From Monday next regular supplies of strawberries will be coming to hand. The market is very heavily supplied with all lines of vegetables, including new potatoes. Most of the lines are selling at reduced rates. A good yarding of pigs realised satisfactory rates to-day. Buconers brought £3 6s to £3 ISs; porkers, £2 to £2 10s: slips, 17s to £1 6s; and weaners, 10s to ISs. Poultry is in heavy supply, and prices show a marked decrease. Hens are being penned in large numbers, but the quality is not up to standard. The market is glutted with ducks, but cockerels are in short supply.
