South British fount- a buyer, ex div., at 62s 6d, sellers withdrawing to leave further buyers In at 62s 3d. Several coals are slightly easier. This must be attributed largely to Ihe rather gloomy statement made by Mr. tV*. D. ilolgate, presdent of the Coal Miners’ Federation, ir. Wellington early in the week. If his statements regarding the tend to over-produc-tion are to be taken with too much concern, the results have certainly not been registered in some of the company balance-sheets released recently.

It will be noted elsewhere that a sale of this scrip was made in the South yesterday at a new high level of 40s. Another security in the group that has been steadily firming over the past week or so is Gear Meats. Sellers are not attracted, with buyers improved to 42s 6d. Mining is weak, and for the most part neglected. Business at this morning’s early call: Commercial Bank of Sydney. £27 15s; Bank of N.S.W., £SJ ss; South British Insurance, 62s 6d. Business at mid-day.—Reported: Australian Bank of Commerce, 33s Gd. On ’Change: N.Z. Insurance, 45s 9d.
