RAGLAN CONTEST
MR, SEAVILL ON HIS OPPONENT (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, Thursday. How could Country Party supporters vote for a candidate who had evaded an important plank in their fx*eetrade platform? was a question put to Fuahue electors last ‘evening by Mr. W. Seavill, Reform candidate for Raglan. Illustrating his query he said that when Mr. McCombs introduced an amendment in the House to have the customs duty on boots increased, Mr. Lee Martin, the Labour candidate for Raglan, absented himself and did not vote on the issue. “So long as a defence system is necessary, I am a firm believer in compulsory military training,” said Mr. Seavill, who was accorded a vote of confidence. . LABOUR MEETINGS Mr. Lee Martin, the Labour candidate, has concluded a series of meetings in the new portion, of his electorate, speaking to large audiences at Kaipaki, Ohaupo, Pirongia and Ngahinepouri. At the latter place 100 people w*ere present, Mr. J. J. Ryburn presiding. Mr. Martin gave an address outlining Labour’s policy. He was under fire from questioners for 12 hours, and at the conclusion received a vote of thanks and confidence.
