WORLD’S BATTLEFIELD

NEW GERMAN LEADER’S FEARS BLAME FOR STRESEMANN Times Cable. Reed. 11.20 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” states that Dr. Stresemann’s foreign policy has been precipitate and incautious, only helping to bring France and England together again, to the exclusion of Germany. The new Nationalist leader, Herr Hugenburg, in the course of an address to the party at a secret meeting, said that the most important task was to prevent Germany from becoming' the world’s battlefield. The most serious domestic problem was the country’s enormous indebtedness. If the Dawes Plan continued for a decade, Germany would be sold out. The party's foremost task was to preserve the old German spirit, and to encourage semi-military organisations. The Centre Party’s organ suggests that Herr Hugenburg is disappointed because he has not achieved the hoped-for plutocratic influence. He has been dreaming Fascist dreams. The Radical newspapers welcome the election of Herr Hugenburg because it is likely he will produce a powerful anti-Nationalist coalition. Herr Hugenburg, who is known as Germany’s “newspaper king.” owns scopes of newspapers throughout Germany. He is a bitter opponent of the Republic policy, the understanding with France, the Locarno agreement, and the Treaty of Versailles. He is also the man behind the Nationalists* steel-helmet organisation, and leader of the German Fascists.
