MAN MURDERS WIFE
ATTEMPTS SUICIDE TRAGEDY IN VICTORIA MELBOURNE, Monday. The dead body of a married woman, Bessie Worthington, aged 25, was found this morning in a cottage at Thornbury. The husband, Harry Worthington, aged 23, lay close by, with his throat cut and in a critical condition. It is understood that Worthington told the police another man had stolen his wife from him, though they had only been married five months. The. dead woman’s mother, who was in the house, witnessed the incidents connected with the tragedy, which caused her collapse. Worthington, who was a volunteer wharf labourer, is said to have struck his wife on the head with a hammer, and then cut her throat and his own.
