PLAIN MISTER
Viscount Renounces His Title “CARRYING LIE ABOUT” (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z . Press Association) Reed. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Monday. Viscount Ennismore, the heir to the 4th Earl of Listowel, announces that he desires to be known as “Mr. W. F. Hare,” his family name. “Servility is given to titles to which I object,” he says. “When one is plain mister one’s conscience is clear. Mine is a courtesy title, which is different from others. ‘‘The real distinction between men is not titles, but character and distinction. I feel that I have been carrying a lie about with me, that I’m not a man, which is a real distinction.” Lady Listowel regards her son's decision as purely a private matter. Viscount Ennismore was 22 years old on September 28 last. His full family name is William Francis Hare.
