ROWING CLUB DANCE

CARNIVAL AFFAIR IN FANCY DRESS The energetic social committee of the North Shore Rowing Club, at Devon®©*:, had prepared a treat for membe#* last evening in the way of a plain and fancy dress dance at the Parish Hall. Nikau fronds ornamented the walls, and overhead manyhued paper ribbons, in pagoda design, with gigantic “belJs’’ and swaying balloons gave a carnival aspect. The cornet's of the stage were marked by cabbage trees, while the orchestra functioned in a nikau-walled bower and smiled gleefully over a barrier of um lilies. Dancers were keen, too, t© make the most of the shortening dance season. Music was rendered by the Kit Ivat Orchestra. Mr. C Farquharson controlled the floor. Prizes for fancy dresses went to Miss Purcell, as Cleopatra, and Miss I'latthews, as Spanish Dr-ncor, the judge being Mrs. Alison; the Monte Carlo waltz honours were bestowed on Miss Buchanan and her partner A novelty event that attracted great applause was a Spanish tango, danced m costume, by Miss Yvonne Arlen and Mr. Colin Shorter; Miss Arlen wore a nlmy moonmist blue tulle frock that suggested well the motifs of fashion in sunny Spain.
