Aucklander Shares Distinction Great, Compelling Force That she Is controlled, at times, by a spirit that has Its domicile in Mars, is the claim of an Aucklander, Mrs. Ellen de Cossey. After eight years of study, at the beginning of which she was frankly sceptical, Mrs. de Cossey is convinced that she has been selected by spirits to further their cause on earth. Mrs. de Cossey was persuaded to tell her story to The Sun, after reading the cable published yesterday setting out the claims of Mr. Mansfield Robinson, who told the London “Star” of his personal experiences on Mars. “Eight years ago I took part in a private seance,” she said. “I was a little run down at the time, and regarded it as a joke, but was warned not to laugh, as the spirits did not like it. SPIRITS NEAR HER “From that time I felt a great and compelling force—l could feel that the spirits were near me, and that they had selected me to do good to the world. They had said: ‘We will work through that lady.’ “Latterly my control has been very active, and I have been compelled to listen and follow the guidance. I have carried out spirit writings and inspired paintings. In the latter, I am told, I am instructed by Michael Angelo. I have laboured for hours on the paintings. Sometimes I have given up in despair, but then renewed force has come and I have felt encouraging smacks on the hand and pats on the back. “My communications are like working on wireless. I have to listen very keenly and sometimes ‘waves’ prevent my hearing. I have never managed to catch the name of my control, but I understand he is a highcaste Indian male, and I have had the feeling, always, that the control comes from Mars. TOLSTOY’S REMARK Mrs. de Cossey added that she had been visited by the spirit forms of Tolstoy and Confucius. As she was “waking” she heard Tolstoy saying: “I haye. . come to look at the woman who is going to do a great deal, of spiritualism in the world.” Mrs. de Cossey says that her communications with Mars agree with the statements made in London by. Mr. Robinson.. She understood that the Martians were much more highly- cultivated than the people • of' “the earth, and were of far greater physique. The men were handsbmfe and the women very ' ‘ *‘ r She had not hteard . -about the' size of their* ears. ““But,” she added; “Mr. Robinson was probably able to see details that were not given to me.” She is convinced that there will be wonderful happenings in the next four or five years—happenings that will advance greatly the cause of spiritualism. • • Also,- that in 40 of 40 years’ time people will consult their “controls” as readily as they consult their lawyers to-day.
