NEW REGENT

“HALF A BRIDE” A very enjoyable programme is now presented at the New Regent Theatre, including tho picture “Half a Bride,” and the fine stage presentation arranged by Mr. Maurice Gutlridge. _ “Half a Bride” is in essence one of those stories of two young people shipwrecked on a desert island, but in treatment it is entirely different. In this picture the woman in the case, Patience Winslow (played by Esther Ralston), is a spoilt, excitement-loving society girl, who lives on jazz and cocktails. + Iler father gets her away in a pleasure yacht, but in the course of yet another of her mad pranks sTn is wrecked on a desert island with young Captain Edmunds. In tho weeks which follow, Patience, for tho first time, .works. She cooks, makes clothes from sail cloth and, eventually, comes to love the life and Captain Edmunds. As the days drag by without rescue. Edmunds fights oif his mounting love for his employer’s daughter.

Every evening prolonged applause greets the new programme from the stage band. The present offering is entitled “Cairo Nights,” and the whole setting is of the glamorous East. Atmospheric lighting effects enhance the act and somo beautiful Eastern dancing is given by the Regent Corps do Ballet dressed in flowing robes. Porter and Came appear in a clever eccentric dance to the swaying tune of “The Girl Friend.” •

Supporting 1 pictures and excellent music by Mr. Guttridge, both at the Wurlitzer and with the orchestra, completes the entertainment.
