PLAZA AND TIVOLI

“THREE RING MARRIAGE” A fine romantic story of circus life in ‘Three Ring Marriage,’* now being shown at the Plaza and Tivoli Theatres, starring the well-known players, Mary Astor and Lloyd Hughes. Mary Astor plays the somewhat unusual role of a girl pursuing her lover, even to the extent of joining the same circus with him. In the big circus, they know* her as “Anna Montana,” beautiful trick rider. With her, and apparently the only one who knows anything of her past, Coney, a circus cowboy. Rawl feouvane, also a mystery and a comparative newcomer with the circus, manages the show* in the absence of the owner. He has been showering attentions upon Anna, but the latter favours Cal, And for some reason Cal, who secretly adores her, will not return her affection openly. It is a romantic drama in character, but a great deal of excellent comedy has been woven into the plot. Neither Miss Astor nor Hughes ever appeared to better advantage than in their circus-performer roles. The second feature, “The Shield of Honour,” is a story of the lives of typical American policemen. It describes their efforts to round up a gang of thieves. An entirely new programme will be presented at these theatres on Thursday evening, consisting of a powerful story of soldier life, “Hard Boiled Haggerty. ’■ starring Milton Sills and Molly O’Day, and in addition, a new comedy by that peer among laugh-makers, Harry Lacgdon.

GRAND SHOWS “RAMONA” No lover of beautiful acting and of romance can afford to miss “Ramona,” which is now showing at the Grand Theatre. In it Dolores Del Rio, the lovely Mexican, plays an Indian wife of the old Spanish days in California, "hen justice was sometimes very cruelly on the side of the strong, and race-hatred was allowed to rage almost unchecked. The film begins with some exquisite Pastoral scenes in which Ramona, who did not know then that she was the daughter of a squaw, is loved by Felipe, a noble young Spaniard. She herself has given her heart—she does Pot know why—to Alessandro, the lithe young Indian chief who is in charge °f the native sheep-shearers. A full supporting programme is being presented.
