TENNIS WITH VISITORS

SOUTH ISLAND MATCH (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The South Island tennis team to meet the Knglish players at Wilding Park on Friday and Saturday will certainly contain G. Ollivier and C Ancas. The remaining two players will be chosen from R. A. Guy (Otago). D. Glanville (Canterbury), D. C. Johnston (South Canterbury) and T. W Patterron (Canterbury). Johnston had a practice match with Angas at Wilding Park to-day, but did not win a single game In two sets. CLUB OPENINGS Papakura Methodists. —The new courts were opened by the president, Mr. Sam Evans, who thanked the members who had worked during the winter months. The courts, with the recent improvements, had cost £2OO. Mrs. R. East, wife of the vice-presi-dent, drove the first ball. The pavilion was gayly decorated with streamers and flags. Afternoon tea was dispensed on the courts by the ladies. Christ Church, Papakura. —The courts were officially opened by the president, the Rev. W. C. Wood. Mr. Wood referred to the loss the club had sustained in the death of Mr. Percy M. Holt, the club’s first patron. He thanked Mr. H. Muir for generously providing the funds for the establishing of the courts, and intimated this season’s subscription would be sufficient to meet all liabilities. Certain improvements are also contemplated to the courts. A short meeting was held at the tea interval, the president presiding. Mr. H. Mogford was elected patron. Mr. Alec Beams secreary and Mr. H. Muir treasurer. The following vice-presidents were elected: Messrs. R. J. Wills, H. S. Curtis, A. J. Busing, H. E. Margetts, H. Muir, C. S. Beeehey. Agmen G. Smith and W. A. Pavitt. Whangarei. —Mr. R. S. Finch, president of the club, officially opened the season. He stated that the club had over 40 new members, and that it looked forward to a prosperous year.
