LABOUR IN ROSKILL
MR. RICHARD’S ADDRESS A splendid reception was accorded M l *- Richards, Labour candidate for Roskill, at the corner of St. Leonards and Alount Eden Roads last night bv an audience of about 200. The candidate spoke on lines similar to other speeches. He condemned the Government for bringing thousands of immigrants to New Zealand and not providing work and accommodation for them, and compelling hundreds to go to the Auckland Charitable Aid Board for sustenance. Air. Richards said the Labour Party was not opposed to immigration, but would stop immigrants coming to New Zealand until every person had work and homes to go to. Then immigration would be welcomed according to the country’s needs. Air. Richards explained land, finance and housing schemes, and other planks of Labour’s policy. He was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
