PROMISE RATIFIED
HELP FOR IMMIGRANT LORD LOVAT AND MR. AMERY Confirmation of the undertaking given by Mr. L. S. Avery, Secretary of State for the Colonies, when in New Zealand, that the British Government would be prepared to make advances to desirable settlers by way of amortisation loans on the 50-50 basis witli the Dominion, was received from Lord Lovat by Mr. R. S. Abraham, of Palmerston North, who accompanied him to Marton on Friday. So far as Public School immigrants are concerned Mr. Abraham will bo able to prove that SO per cent ha vs been successful on farms where they have been placed as 70 per cent of the farmers are quite satisfied with the boys and aro asking for more to bw 6ent. It is considered that these boys from the great middle classes of England made the best migrants, provided that they were carefully selected and were provided with money to establish themselves on farms when their apprenticeship is over.
