“THE SMART SET” AT EDENDALE

“The Smart Set,” now at the Edendale Theatre, show’s William Haines as Tommy Van Buren, scion of a weaJthy family, who toils not, but who rides a pony with a mallet in his hand in particularly thrilling fashion, and who at the same time is considered most eligible by many lovely young ladies. The attentions they pay Tommy lead to many highly entertaining incidents, while Haines himself adds great amusement to this attempted conquest by his sophisticated reception of the charmers. However, he finally falls in love with a proud and beautiful girl who holds herself aloof from him until he disgraces himself, when with typical feminine variability she takes pity on him. “What Shall I Do?” starring Doroihy Mackaill, will also be shown. The cast is practically assembled on Glenn Tryon’s new picture, “The Kid s Clever*,” which will be directed by William J- Craft. It consists of Russel Simpson, Lloyd Whitlock, Florence Turner, George Chandler, Joan Standing, Stepin Fechit and Virginia Sale, a sister of Chick Sale of vaudeville. Emil Jannings, the great Continental star, is now acting in “Sins of the Fathers,” the fifth picture he has made for Paramount- He takes the role of a German-American, appearing in the earlier sequences as a restaurant waiter. The picture will be made with sound. Ruth Chatterton, well known star on the Broadway stage, has the role of leading woman. The director is Ludwig Berger. “Three Week Ends,” Elinor Glyn's latest story which has been purchased for Clara Bow, will be filmed shortly at the Paramount studios in Hollywood. This will mark Miss Bow’s third from an Elinor Glyn book, both “It” and “Red Hair” having proved big successes. Clarence Badger will direct “Three Week Ends.”
