Will Aucklander Win Free for All
TRAINER SHAW’S PROSPECTS JEWEL POINTER—THE TRUMP CARD Although Jewel Pointer missed the New Zealand Cup acceptance, the Auckland crack, in conjunction with his high-class stable companions, will probably visit Addington for the November carnival. The Auckland contingent, Jewel Pointer, Western King, Native Prince, The Abbey and Amaris has been freely nominated for events on the New Zealand Metropolitan Club’s card
next month, and providing the liandicapper metes out reserving treatment to Jack Shaw’s team, it will be again seen in action at Addington, where the Epsom-trained horses have become popular with the trotting public. Free For All Field Owner Moodabe will have a good chance of securing the Free for All this year, having both Jewel Pointer and Western King engaged. The field will be a particularly strong one, as it includes Great Bingen, Native Chief, Jack Potts, Peter Bingen, Logan Chief, Queen’s Own, Prince Pointer, Loganwood, all brilliant pacers over 10 furlongs, and the champion trotter Peterwah. The local team will be in splendid condition when the carnival rolls round, and nothing in the South will have anything on Shaw’s pacers in this respect. If weather conditions are unsuitable locally for training operations, the team will no doubt be taken early to Addington as was done prior to the National carnival, with fine results. Aucklanders will be anxious to see Jewel Pointer and Western King dressed in their best for the Free for All, in which case they will make the opposition hurry some.
