PERSONAL. —Mr. J. Roberts, formerly chief engineer of the White Star liner Athenic, which was sold a few months ago for conversion into a whaler, made two voyages to Canada as chief engineer of the Regina and was then transferred to the Calgaric. Mr. V. G. Boivin, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Marine and Power Engineers, now gaining further professional experience in England, has just recently passed the examination for admittance as an Associate Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, London. The passing of this examination entitles Mr. Boivin to registration under the Engineers’s Registration Act, 1924. PORT NAPIER LEAVES PAGO PAGO. —The C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Napier left Pago Pago for Fiji at 5 p.m. yesterday. She is due at Suva to-mor-row morning and is expected to arrive at Auckland on September 7. —(Cable.) TOFUA FOR AUCKLAND. —The local office of the Union Company advises that the Island passenger steamer Tofua leaves Suva at four o’clock this afternoon for Auckland, where she is due next Monday. WAITOMO UNDOCKING. —The Union Company’s steamer Waitomo, which went into dock at Calliope recently to have her broken tail-shaft repaired, is to come out of dock this evening or to-morrow morning. PIRI SAlLS.—After completing her annual overhaul and survey at Auckland the Nobel Explosive Company’s auxiliary schooner Piri was dispatched from Tamaki yesterday with a cargo of explosives for New Plymouth. Mr. C. E. Campbell is the local agent. COPENHAGEN SAILED.—A departure from Auckland at half past seven this morning was the British steamer, Copenhagen, for Lyttelton and Wanganui, to complete the dicharge of her cargo of sulphur from Galveston, Texas. The vessel, which arrived at Auckland on Monday, proceeds from Wanganui to Westport for bunkers, and thence to Nauru Island to load phosphates for either New Zealand or Australia. CARGO FROM THE EAST.—The local office of the Union Company advises the following movements of steamers* engaged in the Calcutta-New Zealand service:— The Sussex is due at Auckland on September 10, and, after discharge, proceeds to Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin and Bluff. The Hatkhola is due at Sydney on September 11 and leaves again on September 15 for Auckland a nfr Wellington.

H.M.S. LABURNUM AT SUVA. — H.M.S. Laburnum, which is cruising in the South Pacific, reached Suva from Tahiti on Tuesday evening.

THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. —A cable message to the Canadian National Steamships anounces the arrival of the Canadian Challenger at New York at S a.m. last Wednesday from Auckland, en route to Boston and Montreal. The vessel left Auckland on July 14.

WAIUKU SCOW TRADE.—The Northern Steamship Company. Ltd., advises that from to-day it will discontinue the Onehunga-Waiuku scow trade. The scow Victory has been sold to her master, Captain Scopes, by the company, and he will continue the service.

LIONEL FROM TEXAS.—Messrs R. Millar and Company have received advice that the Norwegian motor-ship Lionel is to be dispatched from Galveston, Texas, about the middle of September with a full cargo of sulphur for discharge at Auckland, New’ Plymouth, Adelaide and Port Lincoln.

CORINTHIC’S VOYAGE. —The Shaw. Savill and Albion Company’s liner Corinthic arrived in the stream at Wellington at 7 o’clock on Tuesday morning from London and Southampton, via the Panama route. The Corinthic loaded at London and then went to Southampton to pick up her passengers and mails, resuming her voyage on July 20. Fine to moderate weather was experienced in the run across the Atlantic and fine conditions prevailed until Sunday last, when strong head winds and high seas were encountered. After leaving Pitcairn Island an Australian seaman, who was travelling as a passenger, fell overboard, but was promptly rescued. The passengers had an enjoyable trip, the time being passed with deck sports, games, concerts and dances. The following passengers arrived by the vessel:—First class: Miss F. Bowman, Mr. R. The Corinthic is to sail finally from Wellington at 6 a.m. on September 26 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

BENTON SAILS. —The steamer Benton left Auckland this morning for Westport, where she bunkers before proceeding to Ocean Island to load again for this port. Henderson and Macfarlane will act as the local agents. NORTHUMBERLAND FOR HOME.— The departure of the Federal steamer Northumberland from "Wellington has been postponed until to-morrow. She is now scheduled to leave there at 6 a.m. to-morrow for London via Panama. SYDNEY STEAMERS. —The Maheno leaves Auckland at 11 a.m. to-morrow for Sydney, and the Marama from Wellington at 3 p.m. The Ulimaroa sails from Sydney at noon to-morrow for Auckland. All the three vessels are due at their arrival ports next Tuesday morning. MAUI POMARE SAILS SATURDAY.— Spedding, Limited, advises that cargo for Niue Island and Apia, Samoa, will be received at the Maui Pomare all day tomorrow. The vessel is scheduled to ’eave Auckland at noon on Saturday for the Islands mentioned. CARGO FROM MONTREAL. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the steamer Baron Inchcape left Montreal last Monday with general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland about October 10. The Wirral is to follow from Montreal on September 30, also for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She should reach Auckland about November 9. THE CANADIAN BRITISHER. —The local office of the Canadian National Steamships advises that the Canadian Britisher is to be dispatched from Wellington this evening for Auckland to complete taking on cargo for America, and Canada. The vessel is expected to arrive at this port late on Saturday evening or early on Sunday, but a berth has not yet been arranged for her. She is scheduled to sail on Monday evening for Montreal, via New York and Boston.

PORT HUON SAILS. —A departure from Auckland at 10.30 p.m. yesterday was the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Huon for New York, Boston and London via Panama and Cristobal. The following passengers sailed with the vessel: Miss Blair, Miss Cameron, Mrs. and Miss McNair, Mr. and Mrs. McCosh Clark, Mrs. Stewart-Whitehouse, Mrs. J. Morris, Miss B. M. James. Messrs. B. The Hauturu is to sail at 3 p.m. to-day from Auckland for Onehunga, via Hokianga, to resume her running in the One-hunga-Raglan and Onehunga-Hokiang?. trades after undergoing annual overhaul and survey. The Toa arrived at Auckland to-day from Onehunga, via Hokianga. The Arapawa left Onehunga last evening for Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato. The vessel is due back on Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Monday leaves again for the same ports. She is scheduled to sail on Thursday next for Wanganui.
