AFTER THREE TRIALS
COURT STRIKES OUT CASE HAMILTON SESSIONS OPEN (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. Arthur Read, of Morrinsville, was tried three times for alleged incest last Supreme Court session, the jury failing to agree on each occasion. A fourth trial was due to be held at the Supreme Court to-day, but Read did not answer when his name was called and his Honour agreed that a new trial would not be advisable. The case was therefore struck out
The retrial of George Albert Hedley Nixon, for alleged burglary', commenced at the Supreme Court to-day. Mr. H. T. Gillies acted for the Crown and Mr. J. Sullivan for accused. * Several witnesses called by the Crown gave evidence along similar lines to that of last session. The facts of the case were that, on the night of February 25 last, the prisoner was found on the premises of the Grand Hotel, Te Aroha, where he was engaged in a struggle with the licensee. After being found in the office containing a safe he was arrested by the police, an electric torch battery and keys being found in his possession. ( Proceeding. )
