TYPHOID AT THAMES
12 CASES REPORTED DEATH OF HOSPITAL ENGINEER (From Our Oxen Correspondent) THAMES. Monday. Twelve cases of typhoid fever have been reported in the Thames district, and despite assurances that there is no need for alarm, residents aiys perturbed at the possibility of the disease becoming an epidemic. Yesterday the death of Mr. A. M. Somerville, engineer to the hospital, occurred as the result of infection. Mr. Sommerville was esteemed locally as .a highly efficient officer of the board, and his sudden death has occasioned profound regret. In the course of a visit to Thames last week. Dr. H. Chesson, medical officer of health, travelled to the sources of the borough water supply, of which samples were taken for analysis. Since his visit the water supply has been chlorinated daily and local health authorities are doing their best to block possible avenues of infection
