WOMEN AFRAID OF HIM
YEAR’S GAOL FOR AUSTRIAN
Tony Vella, an Austrian, aged 4S, described as quite harmless, but a source of fear to the women and children of Henderson, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at the Police Court to-day on a charge of being an incorrigible rogue, in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that Vella was not in the ordinary sense a criminal. He slept in a deserted farmhouse at Henderson, doing no work, and existing by begging. “He seems to be in and out of prison all the time,” said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M. “If I give him a light sentence, he will only come back again.”
