VARSITY BASEBALL

TEAM FROM U.S.A. RETURNS AUSTRALIA “SHOWN HOW”

“We had the best of good times in Australia, and found that they knew quite a lot about baseball there. It seems to be growing in popularity.”

The speaker was one of the young members of the Stanford University baseball team that is travelling home on the Niagara after a tour in Australia that began on July 26. There are 17 in the party, including 13 players, a coach, and two managers. All are particularly pleased with the reception they received from Commonwealth sports circles and the public. The team won every match except the first, which was played against Victoria the day after the boys landed in Australia. In all, three test matches were played,' and the Aanerican varsity triumphed against several representative teams, including Sydney University and the Combined States.

The visitors are satisfied that the Australians can play good baseballl, and are improving rapidly.
