Sept. 22. —Napier Park R.C. Sept. 22, 24.—Avondale J.C. Two-year-olds Sprint F. Lind sent the Acre —Mona Vale mare over four furlongs with Curtain as a companion at Wanganui on Thursday, but the Thespian filly was not of much use to the unnamed mare, who slipped over the distance to register 52 3-5 for the half-mile after doing 26 1-5 for the first quarter. A quartet that set out for three furlongs comprised the three-year-old Salt Petrel and three two-year-olds—the Night Raid —Grafton Water Tilly in W. H. Dwyer’s stable, The Potoa —Polly Perkins gelding in Bagby’s, *and the Paper Money—Philomela filly under H. Telford’s care. There was not much between the four when they passed the post in 39 2-5, with the Night Raid filly, on the outside running, in third place, but going nicely. It was a nice gallop. Jet Black was sent four furlongs, a task the jVlagpie gelding accomplished in 53 2-5, the first quarter taking 26 3-5. He is a muchimproved horse on his last year’s form. On the hurdle track, which is a very fast testing ground. Kiosk, with a very light weight in the saddle, was slipped over five furlongs at a good clip, taking a tick under 52 for the last four. He looks very well.

STEEPLECHASE FIASCO At the Williamstown (Victoria) meeting on Saturday afternoon, the steeplechase (two miles) proved a fiasco. There was a field of seven, but only two horses completed the course. Struthblith, 10.10, won by 10 lengths from Drinkstone, 9.0.
