RETIRING FROM BANK

32 YEARS’ SERVICE IN AUCKLAND MR. J. A. KALLENDER’S RECORD The retirement will take place at the end of this month of Mr. J. A. Kallender, officer in charge of the letter-of- i credit department at the Auckland branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who has completed 32 years of service with the bank. For the whole of this period Mr. Kallender has been with tho Auckland branch and it is believed that this is a record for New Zealand. Mr. Kallender was born in England, the son of an Indian army officer, and was taken to India when still very young. In 1892 he came to New Zealand and soon after that joined the bank. In those days Mr. H. Buckleton, the present general manager, was accountant, and the building, though standing on the same site as to-day, was only half its present size. Mr. Kallender is well known in sporting circles in Auckland. He has represented the province at cricket and has played both Rugby and Association football. At one time he was champion hammer-thrower of New Zealand, and while in England took a great interest in rowing. Mr. Kallender has always been a very popular officer and his retirement will k be regretted by all bank officers.
