HELPING EACH OTHER

THE WAY TO HEAVEN CORNISH EVANGELIST’S VISIT “Heaven and How to Get There” was the subject of a sermon by M.rs. Frances M. Cribb, which drew a crowded congregation last evening at the Methodist Central Mission. Mrs. Cribb is the Cornish evangelist who has commenced a ten nights’ campaign in the city. Mrs. Cribb was introduced by the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, who extended to her, on behalf of his congregation, a hearty welcome. Replying, Mrs. Cribb stated that she was looking forward to bles /ng on her work. The success of any mission was due to those who laboui §1 in paving the way for evangelistic work. Her work was to be of quite an informal nature, her object being to bring about a spirit of helping each other to heaven. “First,” said Mrs. Cribb, “we must have a starting place. To-night we must go right into where we are, and where we are gc |.g. How foolish it would be to say we are going somewhere, and not knowing where we are going or how to get there. The place •we want to get to is heaven, and the way to heaven is by Calvary. “Christ, by His suffering, prepared for us a heaven —a land free of tears, pain, and by our simple submission to his law we shall have earned a passport ticket to heaven. There is no cheaper fare —no other route. Every homeless one knows of the sorrow of tears. With Christ there is not only understanding and sympathy, but complete rest, a land of eternal joy. “I ask of you, have you ever once come into contact with one whose life has been of sorrow? With the knowledge that ahead of us there is such a life, promised, we should rejoice. E’or Christ knows of all the suffering, and He will surely help you if you but ask. F/ace yourself on the passenger list to heaven. There is only one way, and that is by application to Jesus Christ, who turnetli no man away, and will surely listen and grant you a home in heaven,” concluded Mrs. Cribb. NEW PRESIDENT BAPTIST WOMEN’S UNION The Grange Road Baptist Church on Sunday morning recognised the elevation of one of its members to the high office of president of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Prayer Union for the Auckland province. The Rev. A. S. Wilson referred to the fact of the election of Mrs. F. E. ICretchrhar to the position, and preached a sermon on “The Great Commission.” Mrs. Kretschmar has been secretary of the Grange Road branch of the B.W'.M.P.U. for some 15 years.
