LAKE PUPUKE LAND
DOMAIN SUGGESTED WATER BOARD ASKS COST Opposition to building on the land around Lake Pupuke has been widely expressed, and there is a belief that the area should be used as a domain. Th© North Shore Water Board has decided to ask the Takapuna Borough Council for the approximate cost of land in the lake basin area. At yesterday afternoon’s board meeting, Mr. A. E. Greenslade said he did not think the land should be built on. It should be taken over by the Government an<j handed to the people of Auckland as a domain. Mr. E. Aldridge, chairman, remarked that the Government would not pay rates on th© land it owned at Devonport. It would not buy land for th© pxirposes of a water supply. A statement was made by Dr. H. Chesson, medical officer of health, that the Health Department would be satisfied if a strip of land, four chains wide, around the lake, were set aside and the public excluded.
